News and Caption Writing
By the end of the first term at Up To Speed you will have learned how to adapt your photojournalism skills to write for a range of news platforms including print and online. You will learn to write effective captions for your images, and also engaging narratives in clear, concise and accurate language.
Assessment: 1 hour 30 minute exam.
Exam format:
You must write one caption and one picture story.
In Question One you must write a caption of 90-100 words to
accompany a photograph.
Question Two requires you to produce a self-contained
picture story of 150-170 words to accompany three photographs plus
a one-line caption for each photograph.
Syllabus:
To prepare you for the exam, you will find out how stories are found and followed up, how interviews are conducted and how to write clear, vigorous and balanced stories for a range of platforms including video.
You will also study how news is consumed and ways in which you can engage with your audiences through You Tube, Flickr and photo-blogs including Twitter.
