The Portfolio

You will be taking pictures from your first day at Up To Speed, but in the second half of the course you will spend time reflecting on the work you have completed and seeking out new opportunities to cover stories.

All Up To Speed Photojournalism students are encouraged to develop a number of different portfolios of their work so they can present their best pictures and videos to a range of clients and publications on different platforms.

The NCTJ Press Photographers’ and Photojournalists’ Portfolio is assessed as part of the Certificate.

It consists of eight photographs and one video report. The eight photographs are marked out of ten and the video is marked out of 20.

Categories for NCTJ Portfolio pictures are: news, weather, character study, creative use of flash, night-time shot using available light, awards, fashion and sport.
