After much speculation, it is finally decided – Justin Timberlake is the star set to perform at next year’s Super Bowl half-time show. After reading the Jungle Books Slot review, we came across the news that the singer made the announcement on Sunday night via a short video with best friend Jimmy Fallon.
Timberlake’s gig at the 2018 Super Bowl halftime show is to take place 14 years after his last appearance, at the 2004 event which became famous for Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” that overshadowed events on the field and caused a national controversy.
The 52nd Super Bowl is set for February 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Justin Timberlake will be the headline act. For many, this is hardly a surprise, as the singer/actor has a great track record as an artist – he is one of the most iconic modern pop male singers, has toured the world many times over, starred in several movies, released three hit albums, and won 10 Grammys and four Emmy awards.
Actually, this will be the third time the singer performs at the Super Bowl, the most for any entertainer. The first appearance was in 2001 with former band N’Sync and the second one in 2004, alongside Janet Jackson, when they sang “Rock Your Body” together. The 2004 performance concluded with Timberlake accidentally ripping off Janet’s costume and exposing her right breast.
The unfortunate incident caused great harm to Janet’s career and reputation in the following months and years, and after news broke that Timberlake would be headlining the show himself, the hitmaker faced some harsh criticism for booking the show and many people have asked for Jackson to join him onstage.
And there is still a chance to this to happen, as NFL officials told the press that ‘There’s no ban’ on Janet Jackson, but it’s up to Justin to invite her.
The singer made no mention of who his guests will be, but he said in an interview that he wants to put together an explosive moment for next year’s halftime show. ‘What I really want to do is take the opportunity to put together a performance that feels like it unifies,’ Timberlake said. ‘I feel like that would be the ultimate accomplishment, and then the icing on the cake is at some point within that 12 minutes that everybody is shaking their booty.’
For the sixth year in a row, Pepsi will be the title sponsor of the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which is the world’s most-watched musical event of the year. Super Bowl LII and its Halftime Show will be broadcast by NBC.
In February this year, the Super Bowl LI halftime show performer was Lady Gaga.
