A top magazine journalist will be taking a morning off each week from celebrity interviews and gig reviews to teach Magazine Journalism at Up To Speed.
Ali Wood created Listed magazine four years ago and has built it up into the top guide to what’s on along the coast from Poole and Bournemouth to Southampton.
Ali took the plunge into becoming a magazine owner and publisher after working as a journalist and sub-editor for IPC magazine titles in London and on the South coast.
Now, she is eagerly anticipating the challenge of teaching all she knows about the glossy world of magazines from commissioning, writing, page-layout and sub-editing copy.
“I wish a course like this had been around when I went into journalism and I am really looking forward to starting work with students at Up To Speed, “ said Ali.
The six-month fast-track at Up To Speed leads to the Diploma in Journalism from the National Council for the Training of Journalists. Students take NCTJ exams in Shorthand, Reporting, Public Affairs, Media Law, the Business of Magazines and Sub-editing.
Students spend part of the course on work placements and leave with an assessed portfolio of magazine articles.
Up To Speed is based at the Daily Echo in Bournemouth and there are still limited places on Ali’s courses.
