A doctoral researcher at Stanford University came up with the idea eight years ago, but he only launched the Lytro six months ago. The company behind the invention is now regarded as one of Silicon Valley’s hottest start-ups.
Ren Ng “drew back the curtain” on his invention in a blog post on June 21.
The company’s jokey YouTube video explaining the concept has had almost a million views since then.
