Everyone knows how the guys at made it into showbiz. Simon Cowell had a lot to do with that. After getting 3rd place in the 7th series of The X Factor in 2010, they signed with Syco Records which is in fact Cowell’s label. So, you could say the man made them famous.
It looks like he feels left out of the groups solo project plans. Cowell spoke to the press at the finale of America’s Got Talent and says he does not agree with everything they’re doing. Plus, a snarky passive-aggressive comment: “Sorry for making your famous.” The boys are going solo but none of them approached Syco Records for new contracts. RCA Records got Malik, Capitol Records got Payne and Niall signed with Universal.
Simon said he would’ve liked to be approached by the boys but “it’s their choice,” he says. The man adds “I’m not bitter – much” which suggests he’s a bit disgruntled. Well, we get you Simon, but in the end, it’s their choice, your words not ours.
When Liam Payne signed with Capitol, Simon has expressed dissatisfaction to a certain degree but he admitted that’s how the music business works. The music mogul says nothing surprises him anymore with a bit of resentment in his voice and says bluntly “he should have come to me with it.” Boy, you should have talked to your mentor. He deserves this much.
Anyway, Simon’s a grown-up man, he will get over it and t be honest, there really isn’t much to get over anyway. The guys at One Direction aren’t who they used to be anymore. Everybody changes and so did they. Besides, Cowell has just signed a 3-yeard ITV deal for X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. It’s not like One Direction was his ticket to more success.
